The African Research Centre for Banana and Plantain was created on 1st February 2001 at Yaoundé. This was following an intergovernmental agreement under the auspices of the conference of Ministers of research and development from West and Central African Countries (COMERD/AOC). CARBAP replaces the Regional Research centre for Banana and Plantain (CRBP) created in 1989 by Cameroonian’s Ministry of Scientific and Technical Research (MINREST). the International Network for the Improvement of Banana and Plantain (INIBAP) was created in 1985. The mission of INIBAP is to enhance the livelihoods of small-scale Musa producers by working with partners to: * Conserve, characterize and disseminate genetic diversity * Develop (by conventional and molecular methods) superior cultivars and test them with farmers * Develop sustainable production systems and identify opportunities for adding post-harvest value * Support research-and-development efforts by disseminating information and raising awareness of key issues * Assess regional and national needs, develop a coordinated response and encourage the adoption of promising solutions

Musa Documentation and Information Network for Africa (REDIMA) - Douala
REDIMA aims at contributing to sustainable research production, processing and utilization of bananas and plantains in Africa, by providing the stakeholders of the two with specialized information. Its creation was initiated by the stakeholders two banana research networks now operating in the African continent: the Musa Research Network for West and Central Africa (MUSACO), which is a CORAF network, and the Banana Research Network for East and Southern Africa(BARNESA), which is a network of ASARECA. It is coordinated by the International Network for the Improvement of Bananas and plantains (INIBAP) through a regional coordinator.
