The Shared Database as part of an African
Agricultural Information Systems Platform
6 to 8 October 2011 Seeta / Uganda
Background
The shared database (SDB) is the German contribution to the eRAILS2 project. The main purpose of the SDB is to allow decentralised management of agricultural data that is gathered during research in order to avoid the loss of data, to facilitate sharing and pooling of data for analysis and the provision of information services for improved decision making.
In the context of the eRAILS2 project the system will be used to manage the data that is generated in the 15 participating countries in the frame of the information exchange service that will operate in 30 different communities and will yield detailed information from 1500 farms.
The SDB will become a tool of the African Agricultural Information Systems Platform.
The meeting will focus on the on two main issues:
- Present the SDB prototype, get feedback from participant for the finalisation of Version 1, explore options for sharing of responsibilities for system administration and promotion.
- To explore an approach and formulate recommendations for the further integration and development of a African Agricultural Information Systems Platform that is owned by Africa and driven by demand of end users.
