About the Auther

Patrick Mutua, graduated from the University of Nairobi in 2003 with a Bsc. in Food Science and Technology. He was a member of th Association of Food Science and Technology Students, actively involved in department's planning and production of assorted food products at the University Pilot plant. Some of the foods so produced have since gained market entry as some members went out to commercialize them after graduation.

He was the Quality Control Supervisor in the Value Pak Foods (k)ltd, an export processing company dealing with processing and exprting of fresh and Canned foods to the European market. He has a wealth of experience in HACCIP,TQM and ISO standards of operations at industrial level.

He joined the Ministry of Agriculture, kenya in May 2006 as an Agricultural Extension Officer incharge of a division and has grown to the current  Extension,Research Liason and Training Officer incharge of Isiolo District.

He has undergone training on the following areas:

1. Induction course for newly employed civil servants by Public Servvice Commission of Kenya, for 1 day at KARI head quarters, Nairobi, Kenya.

2. Training of Trainers course on production, quality control and marketing of Resins, Gum Arabica and others at Isiolo Agricultural Training Centre for 5 days.

3. Training of Trainers (TOT) on Participatory Analysis of Poverty and Livelihood Dynamics at Isiolo Agricultural Training Centre for 5 days.

4. Training of Trainers (TOT) on Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation and Needs Assessment and Problem Tree at Bontana Hotel, Nakuru, Kenya, for 5 days.

5. Human Rights and Gender Mainstreaming course at Machakos Agricultural training Centre, Kenya, for 5 days.

6. Management Information System (MIS) course for 5 days organized by National Agriculture and Livestock Extension Programe (NALEP) at Kaguru Agricultural Training Centre, Kenya.

7. PRA and Food Security & Drought Management TOT course, by Egerton University, held at CETRAD, Nanyuki, Kenya, for  3 weeks.

8. Intergrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) TOT course by FAO, for 5 days, at Transit Hotel, Isiolo, Kenya

9. Training of Trainers (TOT) on Revised BBS/PAPOLD and Value Chain Analysis in their application to ASDSP/NALEP

10. e-extension national training for county officers held at Machakos ATC for 5 days
