We set out investigate the role of trypanosomiasis and other haemoparasites in donkey health in 4 villages in Pate island, Lamu district. The health indicators assessed were anaemia and body condition and contributors examined included trypanosomiasis, worm burden, tick load, tick-borne diseases and effect of season. Trypanosomes were encountered in 3.1 and 7.5% of the donkeys in the dry and wet season respectively.  Mean feacal worm egg counts were low (less than 300) for both seasons and though about 50% of the donkeys were tick-infested, the mean tick numbers were low (2.08 and 2.63).
