In 2008, while food crisis was reaching its peak, I began to be seriously interested in agricultural sector.
I was and am still convinced that agriculture is a promising activity, especially in countries like Madagascar where lands are unexploited.
So, I started an experimental farm 16km from the capital, spliting my work time with this very localized initiative and broader activities.
I'm disciplined and educated myself reading maximum documentations.
To go further and faster, I was searching for some kind of champions, some illuminated guides, a "Model Farmer" who will help me find some shortcuts to success.
I couldn't find the model farmer I was looking for and agricultural sector leaders didn't satisfied my curiosity.
I was looking for answers to question like:
"Are you self sufficient in term of food production for consumption?"
"How big should be the size of a farm to assure total self sufficiency?"...
So, I decided to do the experimentations myself.
And I came to some conclusions, among them: a "model farmer" is defined according to each specific context.
Later, in 2010, I tried to conceptualize the Model Farmer.
This is what you'll see in the next pages.
