3.2 ICRA: strengthening capacity for rural innovation
The mission of International Centre for development oriented Research in Agriculture (ICRA) is to strengthen the capacities of people and organisations involved in development, research and education to jointly realise knowledge-based rural and agricultural innovation in support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially in Sub-Sahara Africa.
The participants were briefed on:
• The definition of innovation (Working definition: Innovation is the process by which social actors create value from knowledge)
• New institutional arrangements for agricultural and rural innovation
• New roles and capacities – new ways of strengthening the institution arrangements and rural innovation.
