What is DRD?
The Division of Research and Development (DRD) is one of the nine Departments in the Ministry of Agriculture Food Security and Cooperatives (MAFC) and constitutes the bulk of the Tanzanian NARS. It is headed by the Director who is assisted by three assistant directors for Crops, Special Programmes and Farming Systems/Socioeconomics research. Further, it has the five units: Planning and Evaluation, Information and Documentation, Stores, Accounts and Human Resources Management. The DRD is responsible for coordination and execution of research in crops, farming systems/socioeconomics, agroforestry, soil and water management, agricultural engineering and post-harvest technologies. The DRD collaborates with the Department of Livestock Research Training and Extension of the Ministry of Livestock Development and Fisheries, universities, NGOs, the private sector, extension services, other constituents of the Tanzanian NARS and regional and international research organizations.
