Agricultural Research Institute , Tanzania (ARI) - Muheza town
ARI – Mlingano was established in 1934 with the objective to conduct research for improvement of sisal yield. Since then Mlingano has remained a household name for sisal growers. Nearly all sisal varieties grown in the country were developed at Mlingano. At present Mlingano has a collection of over 120 varieties of sisal (the largest collection in the world) For users of soil information ARI – Mlingano is always the first place to consult in matters related to natural resource management, soil and land resources and fertilizer use technology. Nearly all activities in the country related to land evaluation and land use planning, fertilizer recommendations, agro ecological zones and soil analysis have had a connection with ARI – Mlingano.

The Department of Research and Development (DRD) of Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), emerged from the former Department of Research and Training (DRT) which with effect from July 1998, training activities were assigned to a newly formed Department of Training and Institutions (DTI). DRD took over research activities which the outgone DRT adopted from Tanzania Agricultural Research Organisation (TARO) and Tanzania Livestock Research Organisation (TALIRO) at time of their dissolution in 1988. DRD is one of the four divisions under the MAC. It is responsible for coordinating and conducting research in crops, livestock, socioeconomics, agroforestry, soil and water management and agricultural engineering.

Information and Documentation unit - Dar es Salaam
The Information and Documentation Unit (IDU) acquires, processes, stores and disseminates information on agriculture and its related fields, in order to fulfill its responsibility of keeping current and accurate information that is meaningful to researchers, extension agents, trainer, farmers and other relevant users in Tanzania. Scientific publishing, library services, current awareness services, inquiry services and compilation, management and dissemination of agricultural databases are among the routine services offered by IDU. To support the unit's Self-Help Fund, a token fee is charged for some of the services and products such as photocopying and binding of books. The unit liaises with other national, regional and international organisations and institutions involved in handling agricultural information.

Tengeru Horticultural Research and Training Institute (HORTI) - Tengeru
The history of Tengeru dates back to 1942, when a group of Polish refugees settled there during the 2nd World War, starting a dairy and beef cattle farm. In 1952 the Ministry of Agriculture took over the land and established a research and training institute. The research component was destined to become the Nothern Research Centre (NRC), specialising in coffee and agricultural mechanisation. Seed testing begun there in 1961, and two years later the Seed Testing Laboratory became a member of the International Seed Testing Association.

Sokoine National Agricultural Library (SNAL) is an academic institute of the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Tanzania. It is situated 3 km from the centre of Morogoro municipality, which is about 200 km west of Dar es Salaam. Established by an Act of Parliament no. 21 of 1991, SNAL serves both as the university as well as a national agricultural library of Tanzania. It has a branch Library at SUA’s Solomon Mahlangu Campus, the former ANC freedom fighters camp. SNAL’s mission is towards supporting information needs of the teaching, research, extension and consultancy activities of the university as well as other groups of people engaged in agricultural related activities in the country and beyond.

Ukiriguru Agricultural Research Institute - Mwanza
Ukiriguru Agricultural Research Institute is the oldest research station and the main cotton research centre in Tanzania. As a Native authority seed farm, it was opened in December 1930, and agricultural research activities began in November 1932 with the selection of varieties of sorghum, groundnuts and cotton, with greater emphasis given to the latter. The empire cotton growing corporation, at the request of the Ministry of Agriculture, began some research at Ukiriguru in 1939. When the Tanzanian Research services were reorganized into four zones in 1956, Ukiriguru became the centre for the Western Zone which consisted of Mwanza, Singida, Shinyanga Tabora, Mara, Kagera and Kigoma Regions. A formal programme for training of Junior agricultural staff was established in 1939; but the research and training wing were in 1974 split into separate units under a director and a principal respectively
