Introduction

The DONATA QPM project in Tanzania was launched in August 2008. The target areas for dissemination of QPM technologies are Muheza (QPM seeds production), Kilosa (QPM production, processing and utilization) and Kilindi (QPM crop management and grain production) Districts whereby each formed one IPTA comprising of various stakeholders along the value chain. In 2011 two IPTAs (Korogwe and Mikumi) were added in the project activities to start working in 2011 season

 

Kilosa and Mikumi are concerned with processing and utilization of QPM by linking with other stakeholders in Morogoro urban. Kilosa and Mikumi are located in Morogoro region that is on the eastern part of Tanzania. The region has a population of more than 2,000,000 people. Some consumers of QPM are from the locations where QPM is produced (Kilosa and Mikumi) while other consumers are located in Morogoro urban and get the product through other players along the QPM value chain. Estimated number of beneficiaries is more than 50,000 people including visitors
