Tanzania Livestock Research Institute (TALIRI) was established by Act No. 4 of 2012 and is charged with the mandate of coordinating and conducting livestock research that will provide technologies to improve and sustain the development of livestock sector in the country. TALIRI has seven research centres namely Mpwapwa and Kongwa (central zone), Mabuki (Lake zone), Naliendele (southern zone), Tanga (Eastern zone), Uyole (Southern highlands) and West Kilimanjaro (Northern zone).


The Vision of the Insitute is “To be a model livestock research institute that contributes towards improved livelihoods of farmers and other stakeholders. Equally, TALIRI’s Mission Statement was defined as “To develop, disseminate and promote use of appropriate technologies to stakeholders in order to improve livestock productivity sustainably”
