About Us
FACODE is an independent, Non political, Non religious and Non Profit making Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) established in 2006 to contributing to full and accountable implementation of pro-poor policies and empowering communities especially women, men, youth and children to take responsibility for their development in a socially Sustainable, by effectively accessing relevant information, skills, Resources and Organizational support mechanisms in a multi-disciplinary context with prime concern being Public Change, Community Development and empowerment.
FACODE is legally registered with the office of the District Community Development Officer (DCDO), Kasese District Local Government; Registration Number KSE/CBO/08/04. It is further registered with the National NGO Board in the Ministry of Internal Affairs; Registration Number S.5914/8021. FACODE’s name is further reserved with the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of the Republic of Uganda.
The formation of FACODE in 2006 was born out of a deep conviction by a group of highly motivated health and community development professionals to respond to the plight of children, women and men who had been impacted greatly by the 1996 Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) war and HIV/AIDS in Uganda, particularly the Rwenzori region. The idea came into play to work with communities under a premise of enhancing sustainable livelihoods among the local underprivileged community groups especially women, men and children in their social, health and economic well being.
Since formation, FACODE works to empower communities to challenge social and health evils, access development services as well as take responsibility for their development.
FACODE is Based in Western Uganda in Kasese District, FACODE current geographical reach is one district of Kasese.
FACODE‘s Vision is “A developed Community able to advocate for Whildren, Youth, Disabled and Women rights to foster community development.
FACODE’s Mission is “To understand, strengthen, implement, challenge champion and issues of children rights women rights, sexual reproductive health rights, Health, social justice and equitably utilize the available resources to achieve sustainable development”.
ORGANISATIONAL OBJECTIVIES
- Help raise awareness measures on issues of Children and Women Rights, Reproductive Health/Rights, HIV/AIDS, Peace, and Environment among the communities.
- To influence change in community beliefs, attitudes and behaviours that perpetuate Human Rights, HIV/AIDS infection and poor reproductive and sexual health practices.
- Spearheading efforts geared towards eradicating poverty in rural communities through mobilizing people to participate in income generating activities (IGAs).
- Supporting and strengthening the capacity of families to protect and care for AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children.
- Empower grassroots communities to effect social change within their societies through capacity building initiatives.
- To network with other development actors in strengthening effective implementation of community oriented programmes.
FACODE Values include
Mutual respect - FACODE staff and the Board of Directors maintain and deepen the rights, value contributions, potential and integrity of community participants, our partners, donors and staff.
Transparency – FACODE continuously challenges itself and others for effective use of resources to achieve set aims and objectives through appropriate accountability methods.
Gender sensitivity - FACODE endeavors to promote equal and shared participation in planning, implementation and decision making processes inside and outside the organization. This entails inclusion of marginalized groups in order to enhance their dignity and respect.
Enlightenment – FACODE endeavors to continuously inform, facilitate and empower the staff to analyze development issues and provide information relating to human rights, peaceful co-existence and reproductive health in order to address differing opinions and perceptions in the communities.
Networking – FACODE attaches a lot of importance to working in collaboration with organizations involved in human rights, HIV/AIDS and reproductive health. The partnerships help FACODE to sustain its activities.
