FARM POWER & MERCHANISATION
LDT through Farm Power and mechanization is encouraging and spearheading initiative to promote a more intensive and diverse use of draft animals for field operations such as ploughing, planting, ripping, ridging, weeding, harrowing as well as harvesting and transportation. LDT is aiming at helping smallholder farmers to increase crop production.
Palabana FPMC has vast experience in the training of animals for draft power as well as the application and utilization of ADP implements. The centre has qualified members of staff who have been monitoring and backstopping ADP activities in the country. In addition, the centre has the necessary infrastructure to train/handle draft animals and to manufacture various farming implements for the following uses:
ploughing, planting, ripping, ridging, weeding, harrowing, as well as harvesting and transportation.
The Centre in conjunction with other units:
· Trains farmers in animal draught power.
· Trains oxen and donkeys as draught animals on behalf of farmers and for sell to farmers.
· Sources ADP animals for farmers and organizations that need these animals.
· Fabricates and sells most of the animal drawn implements available on the Zambian market.
