PALABANA AND MOCHIPAPA TRAINING INSTITUTE
LDT since taking over the running of the Palabana Dairy Training Institute (PDTI) in Chongwe District of Lusaka rehabilitated the infrastructure and brought it to a level II Technical Education Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) Training Institution with the capacity of training up to 80 students per year. In addition, a new training Centre was opened at the Mochipapa Research and Development Centre in Choma, to cater for livestock production trainees.
Starting in August 2007, a three year Diploma Course in Dairy Management was introduced at Palabana with 20 students, also a six months Craft Course started running from January 2008.
LDT’s training programmes are aimed at strengthening the capacity of rural communities to produce livestock and livestock products such as much milk. The curricular of the Training Centres have been reviewed to meet the needs of the livestock sub-sector. Palabana is the only Training Centre in the country that offers training in dairy production. The Training Institutes are recognized by TEVETA, the qualifications obtained from the Institute are recognized nationally.
Apart from the certificate and diploma courses, the Training Centres also offer short-term courses to meet the needs of small and medium scale farmers. The Centres also provide practical training to students from the University Of Zambia School Of Agricultural Sciences, Natural Resources Development College, Cooperative College and the Zambia Colleges of Agriculture.
